Thomas Heaton - From Leeds to Lance
By Samantha Shilton
Name: Tom Heaton
Age: 19
Nickname: Tom
Position at club: Player and Assistant Coach of Under-17s.
How long have you been connected with the club: 10 years.
How did this come about: Well we just live down in Mirfield, so it’s due to how close we are to the club itself.
Favourite cricketer: Probably Strauss, although he’s not doing that well at the minute. I follow cricket quite regularly so there’s a few that I like to watch, but I’ll go with Strauss.
Favourite sportsman/woman: Lance Armstrong.
Favourite TV programme: Match of the Day.
Favourite pastime: Sport.
What music do you like: Anything. The last live music I went to see was probably at Leeds Festival which is good because there’s all sorts there. Not been to many gigs since then but I’m going again this year.
Favourite film: Pulp Fiction.
If you could invite any 3 people in the world over for dinner, who would you choose and why: Lance Armstrong, Angelina Jolie because she’s fit, and then somebody whose going to pay, somebody with lots of money, Richard Branson will do.
What type of food would you serve: Italian, anything with pasta.
What drinks would you serve: Beer, favourite one is probably Corona.
Best attribute in people, or particularly cricketers: For cricketers I’d say not to get too big-headed really because it’s not one of the bigger sports. It is quite hard to get somewhere because there’s not that many teams, and I think it’s important for players to stay grounded.
Worst attribute: The opposite, being big-headed, because it can just take all the fun out of the game and cause rifts.
What is your biggest pet peeve: People who are ignorant, of anything.
Highlight of your life so far: I’m not sure, nothing really springs to mind. I’m a Leeds United fan, so it’s pretty much been all downhill for the past few seasons. And I did work at a local electricians but got made redundant just before Christmas so no highlights in my working life either.
What is your favourite thing about summer: Not hay fever, that’s for sure. Probably the sun, and all the things that come with it.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you have with you: My iPod.
